Oct. 5, 2017, Coast Salish Territories (Vancouver, BC) – The Aboriginal Tourism Association of Canada (ATAC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Tourism Industry Association of New Brunswick (TIANB), with the purpose of establishing a collaborative partnership that aims to promote the development of Indigenous tourism in New Brunswick.
The MOU between ATAC and TIANB recognizes that the two organizations were established for the development and support of the tourism industry in Canada. Both organizations understand that Indigenous tourism continues to elevate Canada as a destination in the international market for tourism experiences.
“The Tourism Industry Association of New Brunswick has been a partner of the work that the Aboriginal Tourism Association of Canada is managing on a national scale, and their formal recognition of our joint relationship is welcome among our leadership team, board of directors, and stakeholders,” says Keith Henry, President & CEO of ATAC. “We are delighted to sign this formal MOU with their organization.”
This MOU establishes mutually beneficial activities in the areas of Indigenous tourism capacity building, product development, and training. In doing so, the organizations will pay particular attention to informed engagement. The memorandum helps to ensure clear, effective, and frequent communication among the parties; offers opportunities for the parties to meet, exchange ideas, and set collaborative goals; promotes synergy; and recognizes and respects the mandate of each organization.
In order to support these objectives, the parties have agreed to support each other’s association through membership; meet quarterly with the purpose of identifying mutually beneficial areas of collaboration; collaborate on activities and projects specifically designed to develop and promote indigenous tourism; promote best practices through training; and take advantage of all cross-marketing opportunities that benefit both parties.
